The year has already begun and you still haven’t begun your new years resolution. Don’t get discouraged and don’t focus so much on when you get started. The most important thing to remember is that everything happens in due time and when you’re ready to begin you will. Think about it this way. If you force yourself to start and you really aren’t ready or focused on what it is you really want to do, how easy would it be for you to quit? So now that we’ve gotten that out of the way, Let’s talk about actually getting started.
First, come up with some things you want to change or improve. While there is nothing wrong with any of us, we all have something that we want to do better in the upcoming year. Whether you want to volunteer more, spend more time with your family, or grow award winning roses, no resolution is too small as long as it means something to you. Get creative and write or type everything you might want to resolve in the new year.
Allow yourself the freedom to imagine yourself actually being in the resolution and doing it well. Try closing your eyes and visualizing yourself lying in that hammock in Bora Bora or cooking your first gourmet meal that you learned while attending culinary school. Don’t get bogged down with the how, that will come later. For right now, let your pen do the writing and be creative.

The next thing to do is to start narrowing down your list. Often times, we make lists that are so long that we need an assistant to get through it all. Narrow down your list so that it’s not so overwhelming to consider finishing. It could be one or five, it doesn’t matter. Make sure that each resolution is important to you and things that you can realistically see yourself accomplishing.
Now that you’ve made your list and checked it twice, now it’s time to get started. If necessary, break up your resolution into steps as to make your goal even more attainable. As you conquer each goal, cross it off and move on to the next step. This will give you a feeling of accomplishment and make it more likely that you will follow through with the resolution until the end. Remember, it doesn’t matter when you get started, as long as you do. You’ll feel better for starting at your own pace and crossing the finish line will be that much sweeter.

This is so so true. The very reason I am reluctant to start a New Years Resolution is because sometimes I think that its past the “time” for me to start. Knowing that its ok for me to start anytime helps me to start period.
Thanks for the article AuthorSam. I’m sure there will be many more to come
